WCM Investment Management

WCM Investment Management Parent Rating

Above Average

WCM Investment Management’s thoughtfulness and investor-focused culture earn it an Above Average Parent rating.

Despite WCM's impressive growth over the years, it has stayed true to its humble roots. The Laguna Beach, California-based firm's assets stood at just USD 1.3 billion in 2011 after a period of poor performance during the global financial crisis. After refining its investment approach, which included emphasizing companies with improving competitive advantages and strong company cultures that support their moats, impressive investment results across the firm's global growth funds have followed. WCM’s assets under management increased to USD 114 billion as of June 2025. Leaders such as co-CEO Paul Black and other key members of the firm, including co-CEO Mike Trigg and firm veteran analyst Sanjay Ayer—all of whom double as portfolio managers—were among the drivers of these improvements and continue to foster a culture that emphasizes improvement.

Much of the firm’s growth has come on the back of WCM’s eight global growth strategies, but the firm has also strategically added capabilities along the way. Over the past decade, the firm acquired a St. Louis-based US growth team and a Cincinnati-based US blend team. While these have been decent pickups, the firm has also had some misses; a Denver-based international-equity team and a Eugene, Oregon-based US dividend team were shut down in 2024 and 2025, respectively, after only a few years in-house.

Despite some hiccups and relatively high fees across the firm's mutual fund lineup, WCM stands out for its strong employee retention, its consistent investment philosophy, and its ability to adapt while protecting the integrity of its approach.
