Wide-moat Tata Consultancy Services reported fiscal 2025 fourth-quarter results that came in below our and FactSet consensus’ estimates for revenue and profitability. We view these results as a temporary setback, although we recognize the risks to demand if the macroeconomic and geopolitical environment deteriorates. We have tempered our near- to medium-term estimates to account for some of these risks, As a result, we have reduced our fair value estimate to INR 3,310 per share from INR 3,710. We view the shares as fairly valued.

Stock Analyst Note

Wide-moat Tata Consultancy Services reported third-quarter earnings that missed our top-line and bottom-line expectations, mainly due to seasonal weakness and tight customer spending. Growth in international markets, excluding India, remained subdued due to political and economic uncertainty. As expected, Tata did not provide guidance for the upcoming quarter or fiscal year. We expect a gradual recovery in IT spending, fueled by the growing adoption of cloud-based solutions and AI-driven applications, to drive Tata's long-term growth.
Company Report

Tata Consultancy Services is a leading global IT services provider with a vast menu of offerings that includes software implementation, digital transformation consulting, and servicing for business operations teams. While in many regards there's an uncanny resemblance between Tata and its IT services competitors in India, Wipro and Infosys, Tata stands out in regards to its scale. The company’s years of technical expertise has enabled Tata to build a solid reputation for itself which reinforces its ability to attract more clients.
Stock Analyst Note

Wide-moat Tata Consultancy Services’ second-quarter results came in roughly in line with our top-line expectations, while missing our bottom-line forecast as gross margins remain under the firm’s typical 40%-plus threshold. Still, it is encouraging to see mild recovery in Tata’s largest vertical—banking, financial services, and insurance, or BFSI—amid a soft but stabilized demand backdrop that is prioritizing cost-optimization projects. We believe that the vertical’s continuing recovery will help to bring gross margins back to normal, but we reiterate our belief that the market is overlooking future headwinds for the firm—such as wage inflation—which we believe will significantly offset future margin tailwinds from AI efficiencies. Overall, we are maintaining our fair value estimate of INR 3,050. With shares down by about 1% upon results, this leaves Tata shares still significantly overvalued, in our view.
