Air Lease to Be Acquired in $7.4 Billion Deal

By Connor Hart

Air Lease will be acquired by a Dublin-based holding company for about $7.4 billion.

Under the terms of the deal, the company--whose shares are held by Sumitomo, SMBC Aviation Capital, as well as funds affiliated with Apollo and Brookfield--will purchase Air Lease's shares for $65 apiece. Including debt, the transaction is valued at approximately $28.2 billion.

The buy represents a 14% premium over the stock's 30-day volume-weighted average share price, Air Lease said Tuesday.

Shares of Air Lease rose 5.5%, to $63.51, in premarket trading.

The aircraft leasing company's board has unanimously approved the agreement, which is expected to close in the first half of 2026. Chief Executive John Plueger said he is confident the transaction will benefit both shareholders and the aviation industry.

"This is an exciting next chapter for Air Lease and is a testament to the strength of Air Lease's business, our talented team and the long-standing partnerships we've fostered across the global aviation industry," he said.
