Uber App to Offer Blade Helicopter Taxis

By Nicholas G. Miller

Uber will offer Blade electric helicopter taxis in its app as soon as next year through a partnership with aviation company Joby, which acquired Blade's passenger business last month.

Blade's air taxis carry four passengers and a pilot at speeds of up to 200 miles per hour with an acoustic impact 100 times lower than a traditional helicopter, the companies said. The taxis use a network of landing points with dedicated passenger lounges.

In 2024, Blade flew 50,000 passengers in the New York metropolitan area and Southern Europe.

Joby acquired Blade's passenger transportation business for $125 million last month and plans to expand its electric air taxi service in Dubai, New York, Los Angeles, the United Kingdom and Japan.

Joby shares rose 7.8% to $14.47 in premarket trading.
