Wabtec, Kazakhstan National Railway in $4.2 Billion Locomotive Deal After Trump Call - Update

By Kelly Cloonan

Wabtec said it has received a multi-year locomotive order from Kazakhstan's national railway, following a earlier call between President Trump and Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

Transport-technology company Wabtec said Monday it would deliver locomotives from its Evolution Series and provide long-term service support, including fleet maintenance, to National Company Kazakhstan Temir Zholy, or KTZ.

Wabtec said the order, valued at $4.2 billion, further boosts its partnership with KTZ. The companies have collaborated for over two decades, Wabtec CEO Rafael Santana said.

Earlier Monday, Trump said in a post on Truth Social that, in his call with Tokayev, "they have signed the largest railroad equipment purchase in history."

"Congratulations to President Tokayev on his great purchase," Trump added.

"We need to support our U.S. Rail Industry," Trump said.

"This Country, and the World, was built on reliable, beautiful Railroads. Now they will be coming back, FAST!" he added.

Wabtec's Santana said the agreement reflects KTZ's efforts to make Kazakhstan's rail network the primary link between Europe and Asia.

"Wabtec is a proud partner in Kazakhstan's progress, helping to unlock the region's enormous potential and developing the engineering competencies in the country's railway industry," Santana said.
