Germany's Merck, Siemens Team Up to Accelerate AI Drug Discovery
By Billy Gray
Germany's Merck KGaA and Siemens signed an agreement to speed up the deployment of artificial intelligence to discover and develop new drugs.
Merck, a chemicals and life-sciences company, and industrial conglomerate Siemens said Tuesday that the deal extends an existing partnership between them. The pair of German companies will seek to deliver digital workflows integrating software solutions, automation, data and AI that will boost medical innovation from drug discovery through manufacturing, they said.
The collaboration will focus on bridging gaps in drug research and biomanufacturing with the goal of therapies moving faster from the lab to patients, the companies said.
Pilot projects include integrating Merck's AI capabilities and the applications available in Luma, a scientific intelligence platform Siemens gained with its $5.1 billion acquisition of Dotmatics earlier this year.
