Sprouts Recalls Select Lots of Smoked Mozzarella Pasta Salad on Listeria Concerns

By Josh Beckerman

Sprouts Farmers Market recalled select lots of Smoked Mozzarella Pasta Salad due to listeria concerns, following similar moves by other retailers.

Sprouts said supplier Fresh Creative Foods issued a recall due to concerns about a pasta ingredient made by Nate's Fine Foods. Recent Kroger, Albertsons and Giant Eagle recall notices also mentioned Nate's.

In September, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said epidemiologic, laboratory, and traceback data showed that certain meals produced by FreshRealm were contaminated with listeria and said pasta from Nate's was an ingredient in FreshRealm beef meatball marinara linguine meals.

Meanwhile, Demers Food Group recently recalled select Scott & Jon's Shrimp Scampi with Linguini bowls, citing a Nate's recall. In June, FreshRealm recalled some chicken fettuccine alfredo products sold at Walmart and Kroger.

The CDC has said that as of Sept. 25, a listeria outbreak included 20 cases and four deaths.

Nate's said Sept. 29 that it was voluntarily recalling select products after being notified of a potential link to a listeria outbreak. The company said it was working closely with health officials to investigate the source.

Sprouts said no illnesses have been reported to date in connection with its recalled items.
