Labcorp to Launch Alzheimer's Blood Test in Primary-Care Settings
By Rob Curran
Labcorp Holdings said it would soon offer a blood test for diagnosing Alzheimer's disease in primary-care settings.
The Burlington, N.C., lab-services company on Thursday said the Elecsys pTau181 test, developed by Swiss drugmaker Roche Holding and approved for commercialization by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, would be available nationwide in early 2026. It will be the first such test available to primary-care providers in the U.S.
The test measures phosphorylated Tau 181 protein in human plasma, a key biomarker for Alzheimer's, said Labcorp. In trials, the test was found to rule out Alzheimer's pathology with a 97.9% negative predictive value, Labcorp said, citing Roche.
In August, Labcorp launched an Alzheimer's diagnostic test developed by Fujirebio Diagnostics intended for use in specialized-care settings.
