Diageo Appoints Dave Lewis as CEO
By Aimee Look
Diageo said it has appointed Dave Lewis as chief executive officer, after the beverage company parted ways with its former CEO Debra Crew in July.
The U.K. company behind Johnnie Walker whisky, Guinness beer and Baileys Irish Cream liqueur said Monday that Lewis would take over the position from interim CEO Nik Jhangiani on Jan. 1. Jhangiani will then resume as chief financial officer, it said.
Lewis previously served as group CEO of U.K. grocer Tesco from 2014 to 2020, and previously spent almost three decades at Unilever, Diageo said. He was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in the 2021 New Year's Honours List for his contributions to business and the food industry in the U.K., the company said.
He has also been chair of Haleon and will step down from this role on Dec. 31, Diageo said.
"The board unanimously felt that Dave has both the extensive CEO experience, and the proven leadership skills in building and marketing world-leading brands, that is right for Diageo at this time," Diageo Chair John Manzoni said.
