Milestone Pharmaceuticals Shares Gain After Arrhythmia Treatment Receives FDA Approval
By Connor Hart
Shares of Milestone Pharmaceuticals climbed after the company said its first commercial product, Cardamyst nasal spray, was approved by the Food and Drug Administration to treat paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia, or PSVT.
PSVT is a type of arrhythmia that causes a fast heart rate and other symptoms, such as chest discomfort, heart palpitations, shortness of breath and dizziness.
The stock jumped 22%, to $2.94, in premarket trading Monday. Through Friday's close, shares are up nearly 35% over the past year.
Cardamyst is expected to be available in retail pharmacies in the first quarter of 2026, Milestone said late Friday, adding that the approval marks the first time that more than two million Americans with PSVT will have a rapid-acting treatment option that can be self-administered outside of an emergency facility or other healthcare setting.
"The FDA approval of Cardamyst is a watershed moment for Milestone and a gratifying event for our team members, patients, clinical investigators and health care providers who participated in the development program," Chief Executive Joseph Oliveto said.
