Maruti Suzuki Acquiring Land to Expand Capacity by One Million Vehicles

Maruti Suzuki India plans to acquire land in Gujarat, India, to expand production capacity and meet growing demand, including exports.

The Indian unit of Suzuki Motor said Monday that its board approved an acquisition of land from Gujarat Industrial Development Corp. to increase production capacity by up to one million units.

The company said the board approved the cost of land acquisition, development and preparatory activities of 49.6 billion rupees, equivalent to $549.5 million.

Maruti Suzuki said it will finance the acquisition through internal funds and external borrowings.
