China's JD.com Launches E-Commerce Platform in Europe
By Tracy Qu
Chinese e-commerce giant JD.com has launched its European online-shopping platform, pushing ahead with overseas expansion amid fierce competition in the domestic market.
The Beijing-based company on Monday introduced Joybuy, its new online retail business in Europe, in six markets including the U.K., France and Germany.
The move came about a month after JD.com announced JoyExpress, its new delivery service for the region. The company said it will offer same-day and next-day delivery in major cities.
JD.com isn't the only Chinese e-commerce company seeking growth overseas. Its main competitors at home, Alibaba Group and PDD Holdings, both have services in Europe.
Earlier this month, the online retailer reported its first quarterly loss in nearly four years as heavy investments in the Chinese food-delivery sector dragged it into the red.
