Sony Group Plans Image-Sensor JV With TSMC

Sony Group plans to establish a joint venture with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. to develop and manufacture next-generation image sensors.
The Japanese entertainment and electronics company said Friday that it signed a nonbinding memorandum of understanding to form a strategic partnership.
Under the proposed partnership, the companies intend to set up development and production lines in Sony's newly constructed facility in the southern Japanese city of Koshi in Kumamoto prefecture.
The Japanese company said it expects to be the majority and controlling shareholder of the joint venture.
