Klarna Stock Rises on Report of Partnership With Apple for Device Leasing Program

By Kelly Cloonan

Shares of Klarna Group gained after Bloomberg reported that the company is providing financial backing for a planned device-leasing program from Apple.

Klarna's stock rose 3.9% to $19.50 on Tuesday. Shares are down 33% year to date.

Apple is preparing to introduce the program, called Apple Upgrade, on July 28, Bloomberg reported, citing people with knowledge of the matter.

Under the program, users will be able to pay off a device early during their term, upgrade early to a new model or keep it at the end of the leasing period, or return it at the end of the term, according to the report. The service will support most iPhone, Mac, iPad and Apple Watch models, the report said.

An Apple spokesperson declined to comment to Bloomberg, and representatives for Klarna didn't immediately respond to a request for comment, the report said.
