Chevron Confirms Oil Discovery Off the Shore of Angola
By Connor Hart
Chevron said one of its subsidiaries has encountered oil and gas at a site in the Lower Congo Basin, highlighting the potential of its exploration program in Sub-Saharan Africa.
The subsidiary, Cabinda Gulf Oil, on Monday confirmed an oil and gas condensate discovery at the 105-4X exploration well in Block 0, off the shore of Angola.
The oil and gas condensate column extends more than 600 meters, or 2,000 feet, with more than 90 meters, or 300 feet, of net pay in excellent reservoir quality, the company said.
The discovery will be assessed for potential development as a tie-back to Chevron's existing facilities nearby, enabling a capital-efficient path to production, it added.
Kevin McLachlan, Chevron's vice president of exploration, called the discovery an important milestone for the company's more than 70-year history in Angola.
"By combining high-impact exploration with infrastructure-led opportunities close to existing facilities, we are growing our resource base, creating value, and demonstrating that our strategy is delivering, as well as our continued confidence in Angola's resource potential," he said.
