Clairol, OPI Owner Wella Files for IPO — Update

By Josh Beckerman

Hair- and nail-care company Wella filed for an initial public offering.

The owner of Clairol, OPI and other brands said in a filing Monday that it plans to apply for a New York Stock Exchange listing under symbol WELA.

Revenue for the year ended June 30 was $2.94 billion, up from $2.69 billion a year earlier, the KKR-owned company said.

It joins a list of prominent consumer-focused names that are pursuing IPOs including smart-ring-maker Oura and Dunkin' owner Inspire Brands.

Wella was originally founded in the late 19th century in Germany. KKR initially acquired a majority stake in the company from Coty in 2020 and purchased the remaining 25.8% stake in December.

In April, S&P Global Ratings said it expected Wella's revenue growth and benefits from cost-efficiency measures would offset pressures from the challenging operating environment. The agency affirmed the Wella's ratings and revised its outlook to positive from stable.
