BP Appoints Interim Chairman Ian Tyler to Permanent Role
By Michael Hennessey
BP said its interim chairman, Ian Tyler, would take on the role permanently.
The London-based oil major said the appointment, which takes effect immediately, followed a search process for both internal and external candidates.
Tyler joined the board as a nonexecutive director in April 2025 and was appointed interim chairman on May 26 after BP removed Albert Manifold, citing "serious concerns" about governance and conduct.
Tyler is currently chair of Grafton Group and senior independent director of Anglo American, and has previously chaired Cairn Energy and served as a nonexecutive director of BAE Systems.
"I am delighted that the board has unanimously appointed Ian Tyler as chair of BP. Ian brings significant experience providing challenge and support to executive teams, while maintaining strong governance and oversight on behalf of shareholders," said Amanda Blanc, BP's senior independent director.
Blanc won't stand for re-election as senior independent director at the 2027 annual general meeting, BP said.
