Accenture to Pay $25 Million to Resolve DOJ Discrimination Claims

By Katherine Hamilton

Accenture will pay $25 million to resolve allegations by the Justice Department that it failed to comply with anti-discrimination requirements.

The consulting firm took race or sex into account when making hiring decisions to achieve progress toward non-public workforce composition goals, DOJ said Monday.

Business leaders at Accenture received monthly summaries of specific percentages of each race and sex within the unit, with the figures highlighted in green, yellow or red to indicate whether the representation met Accenture's goals, according to the DOJ.

The reports drove changes in hiring practices based on race and sex, the DOJ said. The department also alleged that Accenture took into account race and sex when making promotion decisions as well.

According to the allegations, Accenture also offered certain training and mentoring programs where eligibility was limited by race or sex.
