Lockheed Martin, Defense Department Plan to Accelerate Air Dominance Missile Production
By Kelly Cloonan
Lockheed Martin signed a framework agreement with the U.S. Defense Department to produce and deliver its air dominance missiles at a faster clip.
The defense technology company said Thursday the agreement is for its AIM-260 Joint Advanced Tactical Missile, a weapon compatible with a variety of Air Force and Navy aircraft. The missile has increased range and is more effective than existing air-to-air weapons, the company said.
The agreement forms the foundation for a multi-year procurement contract, pending Congressional approval, Lockheed Martin said. The contract would provide long-term demand to strengthen and expand the defense industrial base for the program, the company said.
Lockheed Martin said it would support necessary investments to drive the production increase under the agreement.
