Merck Phase 2b/3 Trial for Remigromig Meets Primary Endpoint
By Chris Wack
Merck said it saw positive topline results for its Phase 2b/3 trial for remigromig in adults with diabetic macular edema.
The pharmaceutical company said the trial, the first of two Phase 2b/3 trials evaluating the safety and efficacy of remigromig met its primary endpoint.
Remigromig is an investigational, potentially first-in-class tetravalent, tri-specific antibody designed to activate the Wingless-related integration site pathway, which is involved in the repair and maintenance of the blood-retinal-barrier.
The company said that at 52 weeks, two different doses of remigromig independently demonstrated non-inferiority for mean change from baseline in best-corrected visual acuity in patients with DME.
Both doses of remigromig were generally well tolerated. Higher rates of proliferative diabetic retinopathy, vitreous hemorrhage, and treatment discontinuations due to adverse events were observed. Further analyses are under way to characterize these findings.
