Boeing Awarded $20 Billion U.S. Navy Contract for Sixth-Generation F/A-XX Strike Fighter

By Stephen Nakrosis

Boeing secured a contract valued at more than $20 billion from the U.S. Navy for production of the sixth-generation F/A-XX strike fighter.

The Pentagon said Tuesday the contract is for the full-scale development phase of the aircraft. Boeing will provide multiple test aircraft for ground, airworthiness, systems, and weapons integration testing.

The F/A-XX is expected to augment and eventually replace the F/A-18 Super Hornet. It will provide advanced carrier-based power projection and will also be interoperable with manned and unmanned platforms, the Pentagon said.
