Caterpillar to Build New Manufacturing Plant as Part of $1 Billion Investment
By Freddy Sebastian
Caterpillar said it will invest $1 billion in North Carolina, and build a new manufacturing facility to meet rising demand for more equipment production.
The investment is part of a plan to support its growing Cat Compact business and build more compact track loaders and telehandler machines. These are used across construction, landscaping, agriculture and material-handling applications, the company said.
The plant is expected to incorporate advanced manufacturing technologies, automation, digital production systems and integrated logistics capabilities.
Last month, Caterpillar said healthy construction spending was spurring sales of its dump trucks, bulldozers and excavators. That helped to lift sales and revenue to over $20 billion in its recent second quarter, marking the first time the company has hit that milestone in a single quarter.
