ICE Canada Midday: Canola Rising
WINNIPEG, Manitoba--ICE Futures canola contracts were stronger at midday Friday, continuing their back-and-forth choppy trade of the past week.
November canola was up C$8.60 at C$820.40 per tonne at midsession, with chart-based positioning a feature as values held relatively rangebound.
Gains in Chicago soyoil accounted for some spillover buying interest in the Canadian oilseed, although soybeans were lower.
Seasonal harvest pressure tempered the advances, with warm and dry weather forecast across most of the Prairies over the next week.
Canadian farmers delivered 707,500 tonnes of canola into the commercial pipeline during the week ended Sept. 27, reported the Canadian Grain Commission. That was up 33% from the previous week.
Weekly canola exports of 130,700 tonnes were roughly triple what moved the previous week, bringing the crop-year-to-date total through eight weeks to 921,700 tonnes. That compares with 715,600 tonnes at the same point the previous year.
An estimated 61,400 canola contracts traded as of 11:47 a.m. ET.
