ICE Review: Canola Holds Onto Small Gains
WINNIPEG, Manitoba--ICE Futures canola contracts were stronger on Friday, finding spillover support from a rally in Chicago soyoil, but settled well below its highs for the day.
- November canola was up by C$3.80 at C$815.50 per tonne, but had traded as high as C$822.60 earlier in the session.
- While gains in Chicago soyoil accounted for spillover buying interest, soybeans were lower.
- Seasonal harvest pressure tempered the advances, with warm and dry weather forecast across most of the Prairies over the next week.
- Canadian farmers delivered 707,500 tonnes of canola into the commercial pipeline during the week ended Sept. 27, reported the Canadian Grain Commission. That was up 33 per cent from the previous week.
- Weekly canola exports of 130,700 tonnes were roughly triple what moved the previous week, bringing the crop-year-to- date total through eight weeks to 921,700 tonnes. That compares with 715,600 tonnes at the same point the previous year.
- There were 85,423 contracts traded on Friday, which compares with Thursday when 90,639 contracts changed hands.
Spreading accounted for 54,924 of the contracts traded.
