These stocks are popping after Amazon and Anthropic expand their chip partnership

Amazon's Trainium chip is seeing more traction, and suppliers Astera Labs, Credo and Marvell stand to gain
Anthropic is committed to spending more than $100 billion on Amazon Web Services technology over the next decade.
Anthropic is turning to Amazon.com as it looks to satisfy its hunger for artificial-intelligence compute power, and that's good news for suppliers to the tech giant's chip ecosystem.
Under a new agreement announced on Monday, the AI startup said it plans to secure up to five gigawatts' worth of current and future generations of Amazon's (AMZN) Trainium chips to train and run its Claude models.
Custom chip maker Marvell Technology (MRVL) and connectivity provider Astera Labs (ALAB) "are two key Amazon suppliers positioned to benefit from" the new agreement, J.P. Morgan analyst Harlan Sur said in a Tuesday note.

Amazon has designed its Trainium chips with Marvell for years, and the two companies have an existing five-year agreement for multiple generations of custom chips, optical and copper-based connectivity and other data-center components.
The companies are currently ramping Trainium 3, and Marvell expects that relationship to become more meaningful in the second half of the year ahead of the Trainium 4 ramp in the latter part of 2027, Sur said. He sees additional potential value from Marvell's engagement with the Trainium 4 project through its co-packaged optics technology that comes from its acquisition of Celestial AI.
While Marvell estimates its Amazon business could grow about 20% next year, Sur thinks there may be upside to that projection.
Meanwhile, Astera Labs is ramping its Scorpio-X switches and other connectivity components later this year to support Trainium 3, Sur said. The switches are used to accelerate communication between chips in AI chip clusters. He sees an opportunity for Astera Labs' offerings to support the technology protocols for Trainium 4.
Overall, the deepening collaboration between Amazon and Anthropic improves both "near- and intermediate-term visibility for the Trainium ecosystem and associated cluster infrastructure," Sur said.
Astera Labs' stock was up more than 10% on Tuesday morning, while Marvell's stock was up about 3%. Amazon's stock was ahead roughly 2%.
Shares of Credo Technology (CRDO), which counts Amazon as a customer of its active electrical cables and other technology for AI data centers and chips, were up more than 2% as well.

The expanded partnership also includes a commitment by Anthropic to spend more than $100 billion on Amazon Web Services technology over the next decade, while Amazon will invest another $5 billion in Anthropic, plus an additional $20 billion down the road.
