Furukawa Is a Diversified Wire and Cable Manufacturer, With Increasing Focus on Optical Connectivity
Furukawa Electric's strategy centers on becoming a core supplier to the artificial intelligence-driven data center buildout while reshaping its portfolio around six new market-facing segments introduced from fiscal 2026 (ending March 2027) to sharpen its focus on data center demand. Furukawa targets JPY 250 billion in operating profit and a 10%-plus margin by fiscal 2030, with JPY 200 billion coming from data center-related businesses (Lightera optical fiber/cable, thermal management/water cooling, Fitel optical semiconductors, tape, memory disks, and copper foil). Furukawa sees operating profit in fiscal 2030 versus fiscal 2025 increasing by roughly 4 times for Lightera, 15 times for thermal management, and 10 times for Fitel. Furukawa is also front-loading its capital expenditure, expecting to triple capital spending in fiscal 2026 to JPY 150 billion, largely for thermal management. Over fiscal 2026-30, Furukawa expects to invest JPY 650 billion, including JPY 500 billion directed at focus domains.
