Grail Stock Rises With Funding From Samsung to Bring Cancer Detection Test to Asia

By Emon Reiser

Shares for Grail climbed after the biotechnology company said Samsung would invest $110 million to expand its multi-cancer early detection test in Asia.

The stock rose 11%, to $83.85, in midday Thursday trading, putting it on pace for a new 52-week high.

Grail said Samsung Electronics along with South Korean construction and engineering company Samsung Construction & Trading signed a binding letter of intent for the strategic collaboration to bring the healthcare company's Galleri test to key Asian markets, starting with South Korea.

The investment, valued at $70.05 a share with a closing date set for early next year, makes Samsung C&T an exclusive partner to commercialize Grail's cancer detection test. The companies plan further expansion into Japan and Singapore.
