Atlas Copco Expects Near-Term Customer Activity to Remain at Current Level
By Dominic Chopping
STOCKHOLM--Atlas Copco said overall order volumes remain relatively stable with near-term customer activity expected to remain at the current level.
The Swedish industrial tool maker said net profit fell to 6.68 billion kronor ($710 million) in the quarter from 7.17 billion kronor a year earlier, as revenue dropped 3.4% to 41.62 billion kronor.
Analysts polled by FactSet had expected net profit of 6.69 billion kronor on revenue of 41.36 billion kronor.
The company's adjusted operating profit margin slipped to 21.3% from 21.9% in the same period a year prior.
Order intake for industrial compressors remained virtually unchanged, while order intake for gas and process compressors decreased, it said.
Order volumes for vacuum equipment to the semiconductor industry decreased somewhat, while demand for industrial assembly equipment and vision solutions weakened, mainly due to lower investment activity among automotive customers. Solid order growth was achieved for most types of power equipment though, it added.
"It is encouraging to see that the overall demand for service continued to develop favorably," Chief Executive Vagner Rego said. "The group's order intake increased in the Americas and Europe, was basically unchanged in Asia, but decreased in Africa/Middle East."
Overall, the company received orders worth 40.52 billion kronor in the quarter, against a FactSet analysts' forecast of 40.78 billion kronor.
