Henkel Expects Organic Sales at Lower End of Guidance if Economic Conditions Persist
By Aimee Look
Henkel sales rose organically for the third quarter and the company stuck to its guidance for the year, but said organic sales growth might come in at the lower end of its expected range if the overall economic environment doesn't improve.
The German chemical and consumer-goods firm, which houses brands like Persil and Schwarzkopf, posted 5.15 billion euros ($5.92 billion) in sales for the third quarter compared with 5.49 billion euros the year prior. Sales grew 1.4% organically, against market expectations of 1.7% organic sales growth.
Analysts expected sales of 5.21 billion euros, according to a company-compiled consensus.
Organically, the adhesive technologies unit posted 2.5% growth, while the consumer-brands arm grew 0.4%.
For the rest of the year, the company backed its guidance, anticipating an adjusted return on sales of between 14.5% and 15.5% while adjusted earnings per preferred share are expected to increase in the low to high single-digit percentage range at a constant exchange rate.
Meanwhile, organic sales growth is expected at between 1% and 2% for the full year, but will come in at the lower end of the range if the economic environment doesn't improve, the company said.
