Uniqlo Owner to Raise Pay for New Graduates in Japan by Up to 12%

Fast Retailing plans to raise the starting pay for new graduates in Japan by as much as 12%, as part of efforts to attract top talent.

The owner of Uniqlo and other clothing brands said Monday that it will increase the estimated annual income for fresh graduates hired in management candidate programs by about 12% to 5.9 million yen, equivalent to about $37,400.

The company said the revisions will bring starting salaries to a level highly competitive across all industries in Japan.
