AIG Taps Aon's Eric Andersen to Succeed Peter Zaffino as CEO

By Colin Kellaher

American International Group's chairman and chief executive, Peter Zaffino, plans to retire as CEO by midyear and will hand the reins to longtime Aon executive Eric Andersen.

AIG on Tuesday said Andersen, who has spent nearly three decades with Aon, will join the New York insurance giant as president and CEO-elect on Feb. 16 and will assume the CEO post after June 1.

Zaffino, who joined AIG in 2017 and has been CEO since 2021 and chairman since 2022, will then serve as executive chair, the company said.

Andersen served as president of Aon from 2020 through 2025 and has been serving as a strategic adviser to Greg Case, the professional-services company's CEO.
