Babcock & Wilcox Shares Rise on Siemens Deal for Data Center Project
By Katherine Hamilton
Babcock & Wilcox Enterprises shares rose after the company said Siemens Energy will supply steam turbine generator sets for its project providing energy to data centers.
The stock gained 19% to $7.04 Thursday. Shares are up 11.5% this year.
The Akron, Ohio, energy company said it entered an agreement with Siemens for a limited notice to proceed to secure the turbine sets.
The agreement is expected to deliver power to B&W's data center project by the end of 2028, with the full contract release slated for the first quarter of 2026.
B&W is developing the energy plant for Applied Digital's data center needs for AI development. It has agreed to design and install four 300-megawatt natural gas-fired power plants. The data center project is expected to deliver one gigawatt of power, B&W said.
B&W expects to sign an ongoing parts and services contract once commercial operation starts.
