Akamai Offers Cybersecurity Solution Powered by Nvidia
By Kelly Cloonan
Akamai is teaming up with Nvidia to offer a cybersecurity solution aimed at protecting critical infrastructure.
The cybersecurity and cloud computing company said Monday the offering combines its software with Nvidia's BlueField Data Processing Units, aiming to support businesses' full operational technology and industrial control systems including industrial equipment.
Akamai said many of the systems used in water plants, power grids and factories are too old or delicate to run extra software without risking crashes or production slowdown, forcing organizations to leave sensitive infrastructure exposed and vulnerable.
The new offering aims to fill that gap, offloading security processes from the host system to Nvidia's BlueField DPU to cut down on cyber threats without requiring software agents on legacy systems.
"By offloading segmentation and observability to the DPU, we're giving organizations a way to stop attacks in their tracks while maximizing CPU power for the heavy lifting it was meant to do," Akamai's Senior Vice President, Enterprise Security Ofer Wolf said.
The product also aims to help organizations align with new regulatory requirements, Akamai said.
The companies expect the joint solution will be available in the second quarter.
