Denso in Talks With Rohm for Strategic Options, Including Stake Buy

By Kosaku Narioka

Japanese auto-parts supplier Denso Corp. said it is in talks with Kyoto-based Rohm for various strategic options, including acquiring a stake in the semiconductor maker.

Denso said Friday that it hasn't made any decisions on the options.

The Toyota Motor-affiliated parts maker made the comments after Japanese business daily Nikkei reported that Denso had made a takeover bid for Rohm. The acquisition price could reach 1.3 trillion yen, equivalent to $8.25 billion, Nikkei said.

Rohm shares were indicated 18% higher at their daily limit level of Y3,243. No shares changed hands in Tokyo's afternoon session as buy orders overwhelmed sell orders. Denso shares were recently 4.7% lower.
