Unilever Receives Offer for Food Business from McCormick

Unilever said it is in talks with U.S. spice maker McCormick after receiving a takeover offer for its foods business.
The U.K. group, which makes Dove soap and Knorr stock cubes, made the statement after The Wall Street Journal reported that Unilever was in talks to separate the business and combine it with McCormick.
"The board believes Foods is a highly attractive business, with a strong financial profile led by market-leading brands in growing categories," Unilever said Friday. The company is confident in the future of the unit as part of Unilever, it added.
Maryland-based McCormick said in a separate statement that it is in discussions with Unilever about a potential transaction, and doesn't intend to make any further comments until necessary.
Both companies said there could be no certainty that any transaction will be agreed.
