Emergent BioSolutions Gets $54 Million Contract Award for Smallpox Preparedness

Emergent BioSolutions was awarded a contract worth about $54 million to supply the Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response with additional doses of Vigiv, a treatment for smallpox vaccination complications.

The company said Wednesday that ASPR, a part of the Health and Human Services Department, exercised an option from an existing 10-year contract to buy more Vigiv doses. The doses will be used for smallpox preparedness, the company said.

Emergent also received $6.6 million in new incremental orders for its smallpox vaccine from an international government partner it did not identify.

Shares of Emergent were up 4.4% to $8.57 in after-hours trading Wednesday. The stock closed up 2.4% at $8.21, and is down 34% in the past 12 months.
