LG Electronics Expects First-Quarter Earnings Rebound

By Kwanwoo Jun

LG Electronics projected a solid earnings rebound in the first quarter, driven by improving profitability in its home-appliance, television and vehicle-component businesses.

The South Korean consumer-electronics giant guided for an operating profit in the January-March period after posting its first loss in nine years in the previous quarter, raising hopes for a recovery this year.

The company said in a preliminary earnings report Tuesday that it likely recorded an operating profit of 1.674 trillion won, equivalent to $1.11 billion, for the first quarter. That would be up 33% from a year earlier and compares with an operating loss of 109.00 billion won in the preceding quarter.

The profit forecast beat a FactSet-compiled consensus estimate of 1.336 trillion won for the first quarter of 2026.

Revenue is expected to have risen 4.4% to 23.733 trillion won for the quarter.

The company is scheduled to release its full quarterly results later this month.

Shares in LG Electronics have risen about 20% this year as investors largely bet on a strong earnings rebound.

Analysts said the company's earnings likely bottomed out last year amid weak demand, rising costs and restructuring. Its home-appliance unit likely returned to profit in the first quarter from a fourth-quarter loss, while the media-entertainment business, which includes televisions and displays, is expected to have narrowed losses on lower labor costs following an early-retirement program.
