Reckitt's Like-for-Like Revenue Rises on Emerging Markets Performance
By Aimee Look
Lysol maker Reckitt Benckiser booked a rise in first-quarter like for like revenue, helped by strong emerging markets growth, though a weak cold-and-flu season in Europe hurt performance.
The British consumer goods giant, which also makes Durex condoms and Mucinex cold medicine, said Wednesday that like-for-like net revenue grew 0.6%.
However, on a reported basis, net revenue was 3.25 billion pounds ($4.39 billion) for the first quarter, compared with 3.68 billion pounds the year prior.
Company-compiled analysts' estimates expected 3.19 billion pounds in reported net revenue for the first quarter, and 1.6% like-for-like growth.
Reckitt said a weak cold-and-flu season caused a decline in net revenue in Europe, following a previous warning that there would be continued challenges with trading in the region. Like-for-like net revenue in Europe declined 4.2% for the quarter, and its over-the-counter business like-for-like sales had a double-digit decline.
Meanwhile, Reckitt's emerging markets like-for-like sales grew 7.6%.
