Barrick Advances North America Gold Assets IPO, Appoints Leadership Team

By Adriano Marchese

Barrick Mining advanced plans to take its North American gold business public, appointing leadership team to run the unit as it prepares for an public listing by the end of 2026.

The Toronto-based miner said Tuesday that the new unit will house its stakes in Nevada Gold Mines, as well as the Pueblo Viejo mine in the Dominican Republic and the Fourmile discovery in Nevada.

Together, those assets delivered about 2 million ounces of production last year, which will be coupled with the strong growth potential of Fourmile, which Barrick called one of the most significant gold discoveries in decades.

In February, Barrick's board received the go-ahead to pursue an initial public offering of its gold operations by the end of the year, a move it undertook after it parted ways with its former chief executive, Mark Bristow, last year.

The new unit will be run by longtime Barrick executives, with Tim Cribb appointed chief operating officer and Wessel Hamman as chief financial officer. Both will report to Barrick CEO Mark Hill, who was appointed in February to oversee the spinoff.

Barrick said the IPO, which is still on track to complete by the end of the year, will be structured around its primary listing in New York, with a secondary listing in Toronto.

The company also said the IPO will be structured in line with the terms of its joint venture agreements, and that it has been in discussions with Newmont, its partner, about operations at the Nevada Gold Mines, as well as the planned listing and the timing for adding the Fourmile discovery to the venture.

Barrick noted that it doesn't need Newmont's approval to proceed with the offering, but that it has chosen to coordinate with its partner to avoid disruptions and preserve value as the process moves forward.
