Visa Canada and Wealthsimple to Bring Stablecoin Settlement to Canada

By Christopher Kuo

Visa Canada and Wealthsimple are bringing stablecoin settlement to Canada through a Visa pilot program.

Through the pilot, Wealthsimple, which is a Canadian financial products company, will satisfy certain settlement obligations with Visa Canada in USD Coin, the companies said Tuesday. This will enable seven-day settlement beyond traditional five-day settlement cycles, the companies said.

Stablecoin settlement involves a digital money transfer that is generally faster and more direct than traditional banking transactions.

Visa also has stablecoin settlement pilots in markets in Latin America, Europe, Asia Pacific, Central Europe, Middle East and Africa.
