Spotify to Launch AI Tool for Covers, Remixes of Universal Music Artists
By Mauro Orru
Spotify Technology plans to roll out a tool powered by artificial intelligence that will let users generate covers and remixes of songs from Universal Music Group's artists, part of an expanded partnership between the streaming giant and the record label behind Taylor Swift.
The companies said the new tool would launch as a paid add-on for Spotify Premium users under a licensing agreement that will allow artists and songwriters to cash in on what fans do with their work, bringing in additional revenue on top of what they already earn on Spotify.
"What we're building is grounded in consent, credit, and compensation for the artists and songwriters that take part," Spotify Co-Chief Executive Alex Norstrom said.
