Unusual Machines Inc. Shares Surge Premarket on Trump Government Funding Expectations

By Joe Stonor

Shares in drone-parts maker Unusual Machines surged premarket after The Wall Street Journal reported that the Trump administration was considering funding a group of U.S. drone companies.

The stock jumped over 39% premarket to $26.30, which would be a record if the gains carry over to market open.

Unusual Machines is among the companies identified by the Pentagon for funding deals aimed at increasing the supply of homegrown drones in the U.S., the Journal reported, citing sources.

Donald Trump Jr. is a shareholder and an advisory board member to the Florida-based company.

Other firms touted for funding include privately-held Performance Drone Works and the Sequoia Capital-backed Neros Technologies.

Responding to a comment request from the Journal, a Defense Department official said any decision on funding would be shared "in a formal announcement at a later date."

Unusual Machines has already partnered with the U.S. government. The company won a contract to supply the U.S. Army with 3,500 drone motors in October 2025, in a deal that could see orders increase to 20,000 components in 2026.

In a letter to shareholders published earlier this month Chief Executive Allan Evans said the Orlando company was pursuing "relentless expansion" in order to meet "the supply volume needed to satiate the ever-growing demand for domestic drone components."
