Siemens Energy Prepares for Rebrand After 2020 Split From Parent

By Joshua Kirby

Siemens Energy said it is preparing to change its brand name, six years after spinning off from industrial giant Siemens AG.

The German energy company said it will be known as Omterra, grouping together its power-and-gas unit with the Siemens Gamesa turbine-making business. The move to a new name comes as the time-limited agreement to use the Siemens brand expires, the company said in a release Tuesday.

The rebranding process is scheduled to begin later this year and will be implemented gradually, said the company, in which Siemens AG still holds a roughly 10% stake.

The unit was spun off in 2020 as part of a streamlining process that also saw the company separately list its medical-tech business, Siemens Healthineers, and later set out plans to cut its stake in the company to a minority position. Siemens Gamesa meanwhile remained listed in Madrid until 2023, when Siemens Energy bought the shares it didn't own in a bid to arrest several years of plummeting financial performance at the renewables business.

The name Omterra "reflects the company's global footprint, its technological expertise, and its commitment to contributing to reliable energy supplies worldwide," the company said.

"Our founder's name opened doors and supported us on our path to independence," Chief Executive Christian Bruch said.
