ABB Acquires France's Advantics to Support Growth in Data Centers

By Nina Kienle

ABB said it is acquiring Advantics for an undisclosed sum to support its growth in data centers.

The Switzerland-based technology company on Wednesday said the acquisition of the France-based company adds high-efficiency silicon carbide power conversion technology to its broader direct current portfolio. Silicon carbide is a material used in electronic components to waste less energy.

The deal strengthens its offering and enhances its ability to meet growing demand for energy-efficient direct current technologies in data centers, industrial microgrids, power generation and electric vehicle infrastructure, it said.

Advantics combines hardware, firmware and software to improve power conversion efficiency across high-demand applications, it added.

The transaction is expected to close by the fourth quarter, it added.
