Nestle's Purina to Invest $644 Million in Italy Pet-Food Plant

By Adria Calatayud

Nestle's Purina said it plans to invest 520 million Swiss francs ($644 million) in an Italian plant to produce wet pet food  for cats and dogs.

The pet-care business of the Swiss consumer-goods giant said Monday that the investment in Mantova, Italy, will expand its manufacturing capacity and help it meet growing demand in Europe. Production is expected to start in 2029, it said.

"Super-premium wet pet food  is particularly attractive right now," Nestle Purina PetCare Europe's Chief Executive Rafael Lopez said.

Nestle disclosed earlier this year plans to spend 370 million francs on a new wet pet food factory in Brazil.
