Revolution Medicines' Application for Pancreatic Cancer Treatment Accepted by FDA

By Adam L. Cataldo

Revolution Medicines' application for a drug to treat metastatic pancreatic cancer was accepted for review by the Food and Drug Administration.

The late-stage clinical oncology company--whose stock has risen almost five fold in the past year--said the new drug application is for daraxonrasib, an oral RAS(ON) multi-selective inhibitor for previously treated metastatic pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma.

Pancreatic cancer is typically diagnosed in the late-stages of the disease, is resistant to standard chemotherapy treatment, and has a high mortality rate. It is estimated that about 60,000 people in the U.S. annually are diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, with about 50,000 of them dying from the disease, the company said.

Revolution said recently that the European Medicines Agency's Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use has begun a phased review of daraxonrasib, allowing data to be evaluated as they become available before submission of a full marketing authorization application.
