Deutsche Bank's Frankfurt Office Raided by German Prosecutors — Update

By Andrea Figueras and Ulrike Dauer

Deutsche Bank said that German prosecutors were searching its Frankfurt office as part of an investigation into some transactions that took place between 2008 and 2010 at Postbank.

The German lender said in a statement that the raid is related to transactions at its Postbank unit, which Deutsche Bank acquired in late 2010.

Deutsche Bank declined to elaborate further.

"Deutsche Bank is being searched as a third party in this matter and we are cooperating fully," it said Wednesday.

The Duesseldorf Public Prosecutor's Office, which is conducting the raid, said it had searched offices in Frankfurt and other places, without specifying the subject of the investigations or the other locations. A spokesman declined to say more, citing regulations on tax confidentiality.

According to German newspaper Die Welt, the search is related to a probe into suspected tax evasion on so-called cum-cum transactions, which involve avoiding tax on dividends.
