Barclays Raises Key Targets
By Ian Walker
Barclays raised targets for two key metrics after a strong second quarter that was boosted by its global markets unit and investment banking fees.
The British bank said Tuesday that pretax profit for the second quarter was 3.25 billion pounds ($4.32 billion) compared with 2.48 billion pounds for the comparable period a year earlier, and a company-compiled consensus of 3.12 billion pounds.
Total income was 8.34 billion pounds, compared with 7.19 billion pounds and a consensus of 8.12 billion pounds.
Barclays raised its group income target to 31.5 billion pounds from 31 billion pounds and net interest income target, excluding Barclays Investment Bank and Head Office, to more than 13.7 billion pounds, from over 13.5 billion pounds.
