Corebridge Financial, Equitable Holdings Shareholders Approve Merger
By Kelly Cloonan
Stockholders of both Corebridge Financial and Equitable Holdings voted to approve the financial services firms' proposed merger.
Nearly all of Corebridge's shareholder votes, and 97% of Equitable stockholder votes, were cast in favor of the deal, representing about 82% and 86% of outstanding shares, respectively, the companies said Thursday, citing preliminary vote counts.
The final vote results from the companies' respective special meetings are subject to certification by the companies' independent inspectors of election, and will be filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission, the companies said.
Under the all-stock deal, which was announced in March, Corebridge and Equitable will form a new parent company. Corebridge shareholders would own 51% of the combined company, with Equitable shareholders owning the rest.
The companies expect the deal, which remains subject to regulatory approval, to close by the end of the year.
