Takeda Quarterly Profit Weakens, Backs Annual Guidance

By Kosaku Narioka

Takeda Pharmaceutical reported a drop in first-quarter net profit but kept its annual earnings forecasts unchanged.

The Japanese drugmaker said Thursday that net profit fell 8.9% from a year earlier to 113.20 billion yen, equivalent to $692.7 million, for the three months ended June. That beat the estimate of Y85.3 billion in a poll of analysts by data provider Visible Alpha.

First-quarter revenue grew 10% to Y1.220 trillion. The bottom line was weighed by higher tax expenses as well as increases in research and development and selling, general and administrative expenses.

For the fiscal year ending March 2027, the company reiterated expectations for a 3.0% rise in revenue to Y4.640 trillion and net profit of Y166.00 billion, compared with a net loss the previous year.

First-quarter sales of ulcerative colitis drug Entyvio rose 15% to Y268.3 billion, while sales of plasma-derived products climbed 8.8% to Y283.9 billion.
